Houseboat carpet and rugs
The truck works from the harbor lot and the hose runs to your boat. Wool and other area rugs are cleaned right on board, in the room they live in, so nothing has to be carried up the dock.
Carpet & Rug · Sausalito
Houseboat carpet at Waldo Point and Liberty Dock, hillside homes reached by a long hose run, and entry lanes gone grey with salt grit. Cleaned by the crew at Tam Junction, a short drive away.
Some of our Sausalito carpet work happens on the water. At Waldo Point, Liberty Dock, and Yellow Ferry the truck stays in the harbor lot and the hose goes down the dock to the boat, so a houseboat gets the same truck-mounted heat and suction as a house on land. That matters more on a boat than anywhere else in town, because the air on the water is damp to begin with, and every bit of rinse water we leave behind is water the fog has to dry.
Up the hill the problem is the street rather than the dock. On the narrow lanes above Bridgeway and around Spring Street and Napa Street, the closest legal spot for the truck can be well down the block, with the living room several flights above it. Truck-mounted equipment is built for exactly that: the machine stays at the curb and only the hose climbs the stairs. When we know the street ahead of time, we bring enough hose to reach every room without moving the truck halfway through the job.
Then there is the drying. Carpet typically dries in four to eight hours, and a Sausalito house under the marine layer sits at the long end of that range, sometimes past it on a grey winter day. We extract hard, can leave air movers running in the rooms you need back first, and give you a realistic number for your rooms on the day you book. If the honest answer is that an afternoon appointment will leave the bedroom damp at bedtime, we will say so and suggest a morning.
What we see here
The truck works from the harbor lot and the hose runs to your boat. Wool and other area rugs are cleaned right on board, in the room they live in, so nothing has to be carried up the dock.
Salty grit from the street and the waterfront settles in the first few yards inside the door. It cuts the pile and holds damp, so those lanes go grey first. Cleaning them yearly and re-applying protector slows the wear.
Foggy days stretch drying. You get the realistic time for your rooms before we start, and we sequence the work so the room you need tonight is the first one finished.
Before & after
Before After In their words
“Am I happy I found you! Compared to other carpet cleaners I have used, you are the best.”
“My marble entry cleaned up much better than I thought it would, it looks like new again. You did a great job!”
From neighboring Marin towns, while we build up our Sausalito review count:
“You have remained one of the few true professionals that still understand what excellent customer service means.”
FAQ
Yes. All of our rug cleaning is done on location, and a houseboat is no exception. We check the fiber and test the dyes first, then clean with the method the rug can take. Sisal, jute, seagrass, very thin rugs, and rugs with fabric borders are the exceptions, and for those we will recommend an in-plant cleaner instead.
In Sausalito it is usually salt grit. It tracks in from the street and the waterfront, settles at the base of the pile, and holds moisture, so the entry and hall darken well before the rest of the room. Cleaning lifts it out and brings the color back. Protector re-applied on those lanes afterward keeps the next round of grit closer to the surface, where a vacuum can reach it.
Typically four to eight hours. Our truck-mounted equipment extracts most of the moisture before it reaches the backing, so carpets are damp rather than wet when we leave. Damp coastal weather and shaded canyon homes sit at the longer end of that range, and we can set air movers where drying time matters.
Every twelve to eighteen months for most homes, and more often with pets, children, or a household that comes in off the trails. Regular cleaning is what keeps grit from cutting the fibers, so it extends the life of the carpet rather than just changing how it looks.
Yes. We clean wool, STAINMASTER®, and other specialty fibers, and we clean oriental and area rugs on location so your rug never leaves your home. Fiber, dye stability, and construction all change the method, which is why we identify the rug before we quote it.
Rarely, because we rinse rather than leave detergent behind. Resoiling and wicking are usually caused by cleaning residue left in the pile. Our process leaves carpets pH balanced and essentially residue-free, which is what keeps spots from resurfacing a week later.
On light-colored carpet, wool, and high-traffic areas, yes. Protector buys you time to blot a spill before it becomes a stain, and it makes routine vacuuming more effective. It wears off with traffic, so it is reapplied at cleaning rather than once for life.
Stone, Tile & Grout
Salt grit, fog, and marine damp wear Sausalito floors faster than inland ones. What happens to stone, grout, carpet, and hardwood, and how to slow it down.

Carpet protector is worth it on traffic lanes, stairs, light carpet, and wool, not in a room nobody uses. What it does, what it cannot do, and why it wears off.
